The Story Behind the Book
My interest in tropical entertaining goes back to luau parties in the 1970s, but what eventually became Tiki Jeff’s began much later.
In 2013, I built a simple backyard tiki bar using wooden pallets. What started as a small project continued to grow as I added décor, lighting, mugs, cocktails, music, and all the little details that make a tiki space feel like an escape.
Over time, that backyard bar became much more than a place to make drinks. It became a gathering place for friends and an introduction to a much larger tiki community.
That interest eventually led me to tiki bars, events, collectors, bartenders, artists, and enthusiasts—and ultimately to creating Louisiana TikiFest.
Along the way, I learned that the best tiki experiences aren’t defined by how elaborate the bar is or how many bottles are on the shelf.
They’re defined by the experience you create and the people you share it with.
Tiki Paradise grew out of those experiences. It’s a collection of what I’ve learned about tiki culture, cocktails, creating a tiki space, entertaining, and most importantly, enjoying the community that surrounds it.
